Hi Reader

This week’s newsletter is all about fresh perspectives – whether it’s the surprising genius of the world’s worst investor, Garmin’s billion-dollar reinvention or the rise of new rules in media and AI. There’s something here for everyone, from templates to turbocharge your workflows to insights on how to name your next big thing. So let’s dig in and get those mental gears turning.

Enjoy!

See it, do it

Discover five types of visualisation that high performers swear by, as well as practical ways to turn goals into reality. From "outcome visualisation," where you imagine success vividly, to "process visualisation," focusing on the steps needed to get there, these techniques are designed to help you stay motivated and aligned. Also on the list are mental rehearsals, problem-solving visualisation and even emotional management to navigate high-pressure situations. Get the story from Forbes here.

2025 CFO insights: bracing for change, betting on recovery

The latest Deloitte CFO Survey paints a picture of slow but steady growth in 2025, tempered by persistent challenges. With a sharper focus on cost control in response to rising National Insurance Contributions, many finance leaders are pulling back on hiring, discretionary spending and capital investment – the sharpest contraction in hiring plans since the pandemic. Yet, there’s a silver lining: CFOs anticipate easing wage pressures and interest rate cuts later this year, which could improve credit conditions. The US continues to dominate as the most attractive destination for business investment, but the UK is seen as a better proposition for investment than ‘developed Europe’. Download the report here.

How to name your company or product

Racking your brain for a name? This site is a ridiculously useful place to get inspiration for your brainstorming sessions. The ‘etymologies’ section is worth a look too, revealing the origin of dozens of famous brand names. For example, did everyone but me know that Yelp was just a neat contraction of ‘Yellow Pages’?

Templates for everything you do

Here’s another super helpful Google Drive collection, this time filled with simple templates for everything from customer email sequencing to team meetings to webinar planning. Genius borrows, as they say.

A late-out-the-gate 2025 forecast worth waiting for

I thought we were done with trend decks for the year, but the VML ad agency has just released a report with plenty of gems in it. Among the standout predictions is the rise of “quiet quitting” in relationships (yes, really), where people adopt the same non-confrontational exit strategies they’ve used at work. And in travel, “last-chance tourism” is booming, with people flocking to sites at risk of disappearing due to climate change. Look at the Future 100 here.

The new rules of media

The media landscape has changed, and the old playbooks just don’t work anymore. This insightful piece from The One Thing newsletter breaks down the new rules of media, from the rise of micro-audiences to the blurred lines between creators and publishers. It’s packed with actionable advice for entrepreneurs and business leaders looking to navigate these changes, build trust with their audience and cut through the noise in a crowded content space. A must-read for anyone in the business of telling stories or selling ideas.

Making AI safe and inclusive

In a cautiously optimistic report, McKinsey reveals that while businesses often focus on AI tech itself, the real game-changer is designing systems that enhance human creativity, decision-making and collaboration. By putting people at the centre of AI innovation, companies can build trust, improve adoption and deliver real value. It’s a timely reminder that successful AI integration isn’t just about algorithms – it’s about empowering the humans who use them. Dive into the full report for insights on making AI work with people, not just for them. The perfect pivot

Garmin’s $40bn pivot is a masterclass in entrepreneurial resilience and innovation. Once synonymous with car GPS systems, Garmin didn’t flinch when smartphones began rendering its core product obsolete. Instead, it reimagined itself as a leader in fitness, outdoor and aviation tech, leveraging its expertise in GPS to dominate niche markets like wearables for athletes and navigation for pilots. This strategic shift not only saved the company but has propelled it to a $40bn valuation. Trung Phan’s deep dive into Garmin’s story is a must-read for founders looking for lessons in adaptability and the art of turning disruption into opportunity.

The power of long-term thinking

The World’s Worst Market Timer offers a fascinating and oddly reassuring case study for entrepreneurs and investors alike. It tells the story of Bob, an unfortunate investor who only ever managed to buy at market peaks – and yet still ended up with a sizable nest egg. How? The key was staying invested. By resisting the urge to sell during downturns and letting compound growth do the heavy lifting, Bob demonstrates the power of time in the market over timing the market. It’s a valuable reminder that patience and consistency often beat luck or perfect strategy. Read the story here.

Leadership tips for introverts

I’m an introvert and I suspect a surprising number of leaders are too. I delve into this in more detail in an article I wrote, which was highlighted on a previous newsletter. Here’s a simple guide that I would have found very helpful if I’d had it when I first started managing people.

Drop me a line

I hope this week’s newsletter gave you something to chew on. Got a tip, trend or wild idea you think deserves the spotlight? Please get in touch – I’m always on the lookout for what’s next. Until next week, keep pushing boundaries and building what matters.

Cheers!
Adam
